Education is the most important undertaking in the development of our state and country.  Being in a position to assist with the education of our youth is a very rewarding endeavor and interest in becoming a trustee for the Lumberton Independent School District is to be commended.

As a candidate for trustee, certain requirements must be fulfilled and the information presented here is to assist with meeting those requirements. However, current law relieves the school district of any responsibility regarding candidacy and holds the candidate responsible.

The requirements may be found in the Texas Election Code. Entities with authority over elections include the Secretary of State’s office (1-800-252-8683) and the Texas Ethics Commission (1-800-325-8506). 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  To be elected as a trustee:

  1. A candidate must be a citizen of the United States.
  2. A candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled by the election or on the date of appointment as applicable.
  3.  A candidate must have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.
  4. A candidate must have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
  5. A candidate must have resided continuously in the state for twelve (12) months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six (6) months immediately preceding the deadline for filing an application.
  6. A candidate must be a qualified voter.
